What do people expect from you?
First and foremost, they expect you to do Their Thinking, they delegate this tedious task to you. They expect you to do a considerable amount of guesswork.
You are supposed to tell them what they always wanted to hear, but didn’t have the courage to say themselves. They appreciate the socially accepted option of blaming someone else for what doesn’t work in their lives, they enjoy having a permission to blame some outside authority whenever they lacked consistent clarity and determination about their way of thought and action.
They expect you to be as diligent and perfect as possible, anticipating their needs before they are voiced and to create and facilitate the social framework that makes them live their best life with as less individual commitment as possible, you are expected to minimize the friction and maximize the results. You are supposed to make them feel safe.
That doesn’t mean they will necessarily praise you for what you do well, as this is clearly taken for granted. This is because, if your performance didn’t in some way excel, surpass and exceed the average level and you didn’t epitomize a considerable amount of foresight, you wouldn’t even qualify to be called a leader.
It is simply your job
to deliver outstanding performance.
Get this:
It is your damn job to be perfect!
It is your job to be as accomplished
as you humanly can.
Twenty or fifty years from now, people should be able to remember you with respect and gratitude.
Contemporary political correctness may pretend to celebrate “just being yourself”, “not caring about being perfect”, but deep down we all know that this “don’t bother”- attitude is a big lie.
That’s part of the game.
However, we consistently need to keep reevaluating the concept of leadership.
What was just fine hundred or five-hundred years ago will not necessarily meet all the non-negotiable requirements of our Contemporary Global Community that is proceeding on the path of highly efficient interconnectedness.
Our global common level of awareness is still far from being congruent with the level of the technological sophistication of our everyday lives. The rhythms of the tools that have become an integral part of our earthly existence diverge from the organic rhythms of the human being .
At this point, we want to take a very honest look at the essence of leadership.
What do we mean when we talk about leaders being a living and breathing example of letting the mind grow into its natural size?
The Natural Size of the Mind comprises the entire universe, all that has ever been, all there is and all there will ever be, it is the sophisticated rhythm that we are all part of, and your task as a leader is to find ways to tap into and reconnect us with this powerful flow.
That’s why rulers where often considered representatives of a higher power, of an absolute power, carrying out god’s will.
All religions are human concepts for getting in alignment with that immense nameless power that is greater than ourselves.
Any Thought Model, any Philosophical Outline, any Scientific Concept, any Religion, any worthwhile Theory in its essence is a Teaching, a Guideline in order to Simplify Life.
Enhancing Clarity and Understanding,
Connecting the Dots,
giving Meaning to Life,
finding the right words to express the obvious.
That’s it.
Well, part of being a leader is making a conscious connection with universal truth.
It has always been that way.
